Leaked: Toy car reveals all-new Volvo S90

Volvo has become yet another victim of leak from a factory commissioned to make scale models of a car yet to be unveiled to the public.

Images of a S90 toy car have appeared on car blog Carnewschina.com, depicting what is thought to be genuine a scale model of the real, life-size luxury sedan.

It's not the first S90 scale model to be revealed, however, with this Onyx Black toy car following leaked images on a Liquid Blue S90 toy in October.

The 1:43 scale models are reportedly the work of Chinese-based toy-maker, Norev.

The Swedish car-maker is said to have commissioned 2000 S90 and 2000 V90 wagons (of which pictures are yet to surface) for promotional purposes but, somehow, the scale model of the S90 fell into the wrong hands.

From the scale model we can see Volvo's all-new S90 flagship sedan shares many of the design cues from the recently launched XC90. Features like the ‘Thor’s Hammer’ headlight design have been incorporated into the S90’s front lights while, at the rear, there’s a pair of C-shape lamps.

Instead of featuring traditional sedan lines, the new S90 also has a more rakish rear C-pillar that hints at a coupe, as revealed by teaser pics earlier this month, spy shots from October and a rendering from July.

According to Carnewschina, both the S90 and V90 wagon will receive the same engine line-up as the XC90, the range kicking off with a 145kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that’s expected to be badged ‘D4’ and spearheaded by a 300kW T8 plug-hybrid.

Set to be unveiled to the world in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Volvo's big new sedan and wagon will be the second car after the XC90 to be based on the company's all-new SPA (Scalable Product Architecture).
