Less than a month after releasing a teaser image of it Infiniti has offered the first clear look at its next challenger for the Lexus RC, BMW 4 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe. Although it's dubbed as a "two-door concept for a future sports coupe", the all-new mid-size sports car previews the replacement for its existing Q60 coupe (nee the G37), which should again sire a convertible version.
Based on the latest Q50 sedan, the two-door 2+2-seat Q60 concept is claimed to draw exterior design cues from other Infiniti models and Formula One, as well as featuring a bespoke interior with handmade leather finishes, plus Alcantara and carbon-fibre details.
There are obvious visual similarities with the Q80 Inspiration concept that debuted at October's Paris motor show and previewed a new flagship sedan from Nissan's luxury division, which describes the Q60 Concept as "its vision of a premium sports coupe". Infiniti Executive Design Director Alfonso Albaisa said the "audaciously low" roofline and quilted leather seats are reminiscent of the full-size Q80 Inspiration, while the aerodynamic gills behind the jet turbine blade-inspired 21-inch front wheels are inherited from the Q50 Eau Rouge sports sedan concept.
"The Q80 Inspiration was an indication of Infiniti's future design language," he said. "The Q60 Concept is the next step in the journey.
"The sweeping lines of the Q80 Inspiration gave the Q60 Concept its coupe silhouette and looks while the Formula One-inspired touches from the Q50 Eau Rouge endowed the coupe with its sports personality."
No other details have been released prior to the Q60 concept's world public debut at the Detroit show on January 13. Infiniti's new Q60 coupe should go on sale in Australia next year.
