Upgraded Prius people-mover now in showrooms

No price change for Toyota's facelifted Prius v seven-seat hybrid wagon with improved suspension and equipment

A subtle facelift is the only outward clue to identify Toyota's Prius v people-mover for 2015.

Underneath and inside, however, the changes are a little more significant. The seven-seat hybrid-drive wagon scores revised suspension that Toyota claims to iron out bumps better, while improving on the car's stability in corners.

As we reported in January the Prius v and Prius c have both fallen due for a refresh this year, and the mainstream Prius hatch will be replaced by an all-new model early next year. But the revised Prius v has arrived ahead of it.

While the changes are subtle, they mark the first occasion Toyota has revisited the Prius v design since its launch here in 2012.

"Prius v offers more cargo space than most small SUVs yet it can travel 100km on less than five litres of fuel," said Toyota Australia executive director sales and marketing, Tony Cramb.

"The latest updates are focused on safety, multi-media technology and additional ride comfort while ensuring the comprehensive standard features of Prius v meet the needs of a wide range of buyers," he said.

Cosmetic changes apply to the grille, headlights, tail lights, rear registration plate garnish and rear bumper. Badging has been altered and the restyled Prius v gains vertical LED daytime running lights. Two new colours are Rustic Brown and Eclipse Black.

New black fabric upholstery is specified for the base model Prius v, and chrome-plated door handles combined with chrome-finished air vents in the centre console and a dark silver metallic finish for the air conditioning system's switchgear give the interior a lift. Higher-grade audio systems feature touch-screen displays and the Prius v gains a new instrument binnacle incorporating a new 4.2-inch colour TFT infotainment screen that can be operated from switches on the multi-function steering wheel.

Toyota has enhanced the hill-start assist, adaptive cruise control and pre-collision safety systems in the new model year Prius v, and Lane Departure Alert is introduced.

Prices remain at $34,490 for the base-grade Prius v and $44,490 for the Prius v i-Tech.
