Bentley Conti GT and Flying Spur go under the knife

Bentley’s Continental family gets more power for its W12 plus mild exterior and interior tweaks

Bentley has given its four-year old Continental GT a facelift for 2015.

Revealed at the Geneva motor show next month the updates focused on improving the existing powertrains while improving interior comfort and on-board tech.

Biggest change is what’s happened to the 6.0-litre W12. It’s had power and torque increased from 423kW/700Nm to an even more generous 434kW/720Nm.

Along with the power increases Bentley claims it’s improved fuel economy for the W12 by 5 per cent thanks to cylinder on demand technology, although the Continental GT can still only manage 14.1l/100km while emitting 329g/km of CO2.

The Flying Spur luxury sedan also gets a bump in power and now produces 460kW/800Nm. The same cylinder on demand technology sees its emissions slightly reduce to 333g/km of CO2, down from 343g/km.

Bentley has not released performance figures for either car.

As well as the engineering tweaks the Bentley coupe now comes with a new front bumper with a smaller radiator grille and front wings with vents complete with Bentley ‘B’ logos.

At the rear there’s now a more sculptured boot lid that incorporates a very subtle spoiler. The rear bumper is also new that has been reshaped and widened.

Bentley has also used the mid-life tweaks to introduce new 20 and 21-inch alloys and three new paint colours - Merlin (metallic blue), Camel (bronze) and Jetstream (light metallic blue) - in case you were interested.

Inside, Bentley claims all driver controls are new and buyers, as an option, can choose a new sports steering wheel that incorporates larger gearshift paddles.

More widespread use of chrome highlights has also been introduced on the Bentley as well as LED interior lighting. Continental GT coupe models also gain a new storage bin between the two rear seats that can charge handheld devices as big as an iPad.

The British car maker has also introduced some new leather interior options on both the Flying Spur and Continental GT, plus onboard wifi.

Production begins this summer. Expect Bentley to announce pricing for the facelift of the Continental GT and Flying Spur at its Geneva motor show launch.
