A lot of media attention has been focused on just how BMW will celebrate its centenary, in production terms, following the recent unveiling of the BMW M4 GTS Concept at Pebble Beach.
These latest spy images show what is believed to be the production version lapping the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife, and it looks far closer to production than it did when it was last snapped there in September 2014.
Additional aerodynamic touches include an impressive front splitter, as well as that steeply-angled, GT3 RS-style adjustable rear wing.
Acid Orange road wheels, which ape those seen on the Pebble Beach concept car, and shapely bonnet (believed to be CFRP), add further visual clout. Still covered is the tail light section; will they be full LED?
Despite earlier rumours the engine will be enlarged as per the E90 M3 GTS, it is now thought the 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine will instead be boosted in outputs via water injection, as seen on the M4 MotoGP Safety Car.
There are no power figures yet, but it's believed BMW won't exceed 500hp (373kW) with the M4 GTS.
Other expected items include the usual roll cage and interior strip, further maximising performance.
