In the lead up to the global launch of Jaguar's first-ever SUV, the F-PACE, the British car maker has confirmed its latest model won't compromise on driving dynamics.
The company has already touted the car as faster and more engaging than the Porsche Macan and new images and details have emerged in a video proclaiming the F-PACE takes advantage of "F-TYPE derived technologies" that will deliver "enhanced agility".
Jaguar wants the world to know that its SUV is not just an ordinary high-riding wagon, but a vehicle with the essence of a sports car, and it's also clear from the video that it'll be packing a supercharged 250kW 3.0-litre V6.
"We haven't made any compromises or exceptions: the new F-PACE had to be a true Jaguar and had to deliver the dynamics DNA," said Mike Cross, Jaguar's chief engineer of vehicle integrity.
To be launched deep within enemy territory at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, the F-PACE is expected to include a torque vectoring system to apportion power between the left and right wheels, along with an advanced all-wheel drive system that will siphon power to where it's needed most.
The electric power steering system will deliver 'unmatched driver engagement' says Jaguar, and based on the new steering systems first tested on the new Jaguar XE and XF by motoring.com.au, there may some truth to the hyperbole.
Double wishbone front suspension and integral link rear suspension will prop the SUV up and ensure Jaguar's Porsche Macan fighter will deliver sharp handling without compromising ride comfort, says Cross.
"We've tested ride and handling to the limit in all environments and in
all conditions, and the result is that the new F-PACE is as engaging and
rewarding to drive as it is comfortable and quiet. As soon as you get
into the vehicle you know immediately that it's a good place to be," he said.
To be built at Jaguar's new manufacturing plant at Solihull, the F-PACE is likely to be offered with a range of engines, starting with four-cylinder turbo-petrol and turbo-diesel options. Like the XE sedan there will also be performance versions with bigger brakes, sporty bodywork and the company's tried and test supercharged V6.
That 3.0-litre V6 engine should be good for around 250kW and 450Nm and will see the F-PACE accelerate to 100km/h in around five and a half seconds. There's even a chance that a 400kW-plus 5.0-litre supercharged V8 model will emerge later in the model cycle.
Rivals for the new Jaguar F-PACE will include the likes of BMW's X4, the Mercedes-Benz GLC and Porsche Macan. The Jag will be available in Europe from early-2016, with an Aussie launch date slated for half-way through next year.
Stay tuned for all the details directly from the Frankfurt motor show from mid-September.
