Land Rover Australia has announced a $218,500 (plus on-road costs) pricetag for the blistering new Range Rover Sport SVR.
That's a cool $36,500 more than the supercharged 5.0-litre V8 Autobiography flagship upon which it's based, but less than the 25 per cent price premium previously expected.
As we've reported, that hasn't stopped the first model from Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations – and Land Rover's first SVR model – already being a sell-out success Down Under, where more than 50 deposits have been taken.
First deliveries of Britain's answer to German super-SUVs like the BMW X6 M, Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG and Porsche Cayenne Turbo S arrive here in May.
Befitting its place at the top of the all-aluminium Rangie Sport tree, the SVR (like Jaguar's R-S models) packs 405kW of power and 680Nm of torque (up from 385kW/625Nm) and can accelerate to 100km/h in just 4.7 seconds – 0.6 seconds sooner than the SDV8 Rangie Sport – on its way to a 260km/h top speed.
Matched to a retuned eight-speed automatic transmission, fuel consumption remains unchanged at 12.8L/100km.
The SVR has the sound and handling to match its engine performance, thanks to a new active quad exhaust system in which valves open electronically at 3000rpm to liberate more noise, plus a recalibrated rear differential, torque vectoring, adaptive dampers, revised electric steering, Active Roll Control and six-piston Brembo brakes.
It also rides on 21-inch alloy wheels with 275/45 R21 all-season tyres (22s with 295/40 R22 Continental SportContact 5 tyres are optional), wrapped by flared wheel-arches, and is further distinguished by a more aggressive body kit comprising a different grille and larger air intakes.
Seven exterior paint colours are available, including the exclusive hero-hue Estoril Blue, along with a contrasting Santorini Black roof, High Gloss Black highlights and 'Stealth Pack' headlights.
Inside, there is 16-way power front seat adjustment and new rear seats that recline for maximum comfort and offer full 60/40-split folding capability and up to 1761 litres of load space.
Seat trim is Windsor leather with ribbed and quilted centres, Ebony Black top stitching, reflective piping and SVR logos. Four interior colour schemes are available: Ebony Black; Ebony Black and Cirrus White; Ebony Black and Pimento Red; Ebony Black and Tan.
The standard turned aluminium interior trim details can be swapped for carbon-fibre trims for the door panels, centre console, dashboard and steering-wheel bezel.
The SVR doesn't compromise the Rangie Sport's off-road capability, including a ride height ranging from 50mm in access mode up to 235mm, a best-in-class 850mm wading depth and six Terrain Response 2 settings: Auto, General, Dynamic, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, Sand and Rock Crawl.
However, wheel travel is reduced slightly, to a still-sizeable 260mm at the front and 272mm at the rear.
