Mercedes-Benz has reconfigured its seven-seat GL-Class SUV range and some versions of the better-value 'limited-edition' line-up can now be had for as much as $15,030 less than before.
The updated GL family comprises the GL 350 BlueTEC Limited Edition, the GL 350 BlueTEC Edition S, the GL 500 Edition S and the GL 63 AMG.
While Mercedes-Benz describes the new models as limited-editions, public relations and product communications manager Jerry Stamoulis told motoring.com.au the upgraded variants are “effectively run-out models”.
The GL 350 BlueTEC Limited Edition is priced at $114,900 (plus on-road costs) -- a substantial $15,030 cheaper than the outgoing GL 350 BlueTEC.
In addition to a new Limited Edition exterior, the model also includes 20-inch wheels, Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system, Keyless-go and easy-entry system as standard. Also standard are tinted windows, metallic paint and dark graphite wood dashboard inlays.
The GL 350 BlueTEC Edition S -- now priced at $134,900 plus ORCs, or $4970 more than the outgoing GL 350 BlueTEC -- features the AMG Sports Package (which includes AMG body styling, 21-inch AMG five twin-spoke alloy wheels, AMG body kit and dark-tinted privacy glass), Active Curve System (which decreases body roll), tyre pressure monitoring, multi-contour front seats and a wood/leather steering wheel.
In addition to the GL 350 Edition S model’s equipment, the GL 500 Edition S gains a panoramic glass electric sunroof with slide/tilt function, rear sun blinds, anti-theft protection package (with motion sensors), digital TV tuner and laminated front side safety glass.
Edition S exterior styling on the GL 350 BlueTEC is also standard for the GL 500 Edition S, which costs $159,500 plus ORCs -- $4070 more than the outgoing GL 500.
Completing the picture is the Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG that now comes with the AMG Driver’s package (which increases top speed to 270km/h), the designo Exclusive Package and heated and ventilated front seats.
The GL 63 AMG is priced at $214,900 plus ORCs -- down $2030 from the previous price of $216,930.
The run-out GLs will be replaced by a far more significantly upgraded range of models in the second quarter of next year, when Mercedes-Benz Australia introduces a renamed, facelifted GL-Class range that will wear the GLS badge.
