Skoda Australia has released two limited-edition models to mark the Czech car maker's 120th anniversary.
Dubbed '120 Edition', they include the Rapid Spaceback hatch and Yeti crossover, both of which offer a host of unique extras including unique bi-colour alloy wheels, interior seat trim and badging.
Powered by a 90kW/200Nm 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine matched to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic DSG transmission, both models also add more standard equipment like xenon headlights and, in the case of the Yeti 120 Edition, satellite-navigation.
Both models will also come with a specific instrument cluster, leather-clad three-spoke steering wheel, gearshifter and handbrake lever, brushed-aluminium interior highlights, fog lights, colour-coded wing mirrors, tinted rear/side windows and grey-stitched floor mats.
The Rapid Spaceback 120 Edition is priced at $24,390 plus on-road costs – $640 more than the MY15 Rapid Spaceback 90TSI Elegance DSG on which it's based.
Meantime, the Yeti 120 Edition costs $30,290 plus ORCs – $2000 more than the MY15 Yeti 90TSI Ambition 2WD DSG on which it's based.
In Europe, there are also special 120 Edition versions of Skoda's Octavia and Fabia, which may also become available in Australia.
In fact, motoring.com.au understands Skoda Australia will announce other new models – including a number of model year updates – at the launch of the new Fabia hatch and wagon in July.
The Fabia range will be topped by a new Monte Carlo flagship around October, before being joined in the local Skoda line-up by the new Superb large sedan and wagon around April next year, and the hot 250km/h Octavia RS 230.
From humble beginnings 120 years ago (and production of its first car 110 years ago), Skoda has grown to be one of Europe's and Volkswagen's biggest brands, selling a record 1.04 million vehicles last year.
Skoda plans to release a new model on average every six months – including its first large SUV as part of its target of 1.5 million annual sales.
