Kia is fronting up to the Chicago motor show next month with a new concept car developed by the company's California design studio.
The company has not officially divulged the name of the show car (pictured), but it appears to draw on styling details, at the very least, from the Soul hatchback. Kia claims that the concept will be an all-wheel drive vehicle for the occasional trip to the snow for a skiing, mountain-biking or camping weekend. That might work out fine for a production vehicle, provided the family or friends planning a weekend away stay at a powered campsite, because the concept car is also an electric vehicle (EV).
Kia is saying little else, and on first impressions the show car seems unlikely to enter production as a serious get-away-from-it-all escape machine until battery technology makes it possible for EVs to spend days at a time out in the wild without hauling along a petrol-powered portable generator.
But if and when that happens, a zero-emissions SUV would be a truly green way to enjoy the environment.
