SHANGHAI MOTOR SHOW: Nissan Venucia VOW concept unveiled

Nissan’s budget brand Venucia show off a dirt cheap BMW X4/X6 alternative

Nissan’s Chinese joint venture Dongfeng-Nissan has surprised Shanghai showgoers with a sleek take on a four-door coupe-crossover that cashes in on the appeal and growing popularity of cars like the BMW X4 and X6 in China.

Created for sub-brand Venucia that, until now, was seen as a conservative Chinese brand that sold humble affordable cars the new concept is thought to be close to production.

Sharing the same platform as the ungainly Venucia T70 SUV, the VOW is expected to pack the same 90kW 1.6-litre and 106kW 1.8-litre petrols.

Speaking at its unveiling, Dongfeng-Nissan’s MD, Zhou Xianpeng fuelled local excitement that the brand was finally breaking free from its staid, budget-car image and about to embark on a more exciting future by saying: “We believe Venucia will lead future trends as an influencer, and enhance its place in the automotive market in China.”
