Toyota to get radical with Nissan QASHQAI rival

Japanese car-maker green lights wild C-HR, production car said to stay true to wild concept

Toyota has confirmed it has no plans to play it safe with its all-new compact SUV, which has been confirmed for production and goes on sale next year.

The news that Toyota will stay true to the C-HR concept revealed at last year's Paris motor show was revealed by British magazine, Autocar.

Packing large flared wheel-arches, wild angles and striking boomerang tail-lights, the C-HR was originally created by designers to appease company boss, Akio Toyoda, who wants future Toyotas to be more adventurous. But now his dream will turn into reality, according to the British mag.

Following the show, Toyota quizzed potential customers about whether or not they would buy something as striking as the C-HR over more conventional crossovers and the results came back favourable, convincing the management to approve the design.

Based on Toyota’s new TNGA platform, which will also underpin the next-generation Prius, the new crossover is rumoured to be called the ‘Auris Cross’ and could wear the Corolla Cross name in Australia.

It is expected to be revealed at the 2016 Geneva motor show next March and should go on sale in European and Asian market later next year.
