Fiat has announced that it will unveil an all-new replacement for the 500 city car on July 4.
Expected to be wider, longer and taller than the current 500, the new car should offer more room inside – which is crucial for markets like the US where the small Fiat has proven a hit.
Offered with a choice of three doors or five doors (for the first time in the case of the latter), the new 500 is likely to carry over the current 500’s retro-inspired interior, but, in place of the current car’s radio there will be a huge touchscreen infotainment screen to cull all the interior buttons.
Under the bonnet nothing radical is planned, it's believed. Expect the full range of 500 engines to carry over with the addition of Fiat’s recent 88kW 1.6-litre diesel and new range of 1.4-litre turbo engines. The current two-cylinder TwinAir will also live on.
The option of a five-speed manual or new six-speed dual clutch automatic is also likely.
More information will be released closer to the reveal as well as the inevitable teases.
