DETROIT MOTOR SHOW: Renegade goes custom

Jeep's new Renegade and Dodge's Challenger get Mopar personalisation treatment at NAIAS
Chrysler has gone all out at the Detroit motor show, customising a pair of its new Jeep Renegades – and a one-off vintage-themed Dodge Challenger – in full Mopar regalia.
Chrysler says the concept vehicles spotlight not only how Mopar parts enable owners to customise their rides in new ways, courtesy of the vast variety of parts available, including for the upcoming Renegade small SUV.
The Renegade duo feature off-road and urban-orientated design, each with its own distinct personality.
Jeep says the trail-tough Mopar-equipped Renegade includes a mix of Jeep Performance and prototype parts aimed at those following an adventurous lifestyle. Developed to improve the Renegade's offroad ability, the parts list includes everything from military-inspired graphics through to model-specific wheels, tow hooks and roof rails. Body side rails, a skid plate and rock rails are also included, as is an offroad-focussed rear valance.
Inside, a Commando Green hue matches the exterior's militia motif, while Katzkin leather seats covers and painted HVAC bezels and speaker grilles complete the look.
The 'Urban Mopar' Renegade, on the other hand, focuses on youthful styling, says Jeep, aiming at suburban dwellers with less of a desire for offroad trails. Its Anvil paint scheme is contrasted with Omaha Orange touches, recalling the Gulf colours of 60's racecars.
The model adds a bicycle carrier, leather seats and bright orange HVAC bezels, speaker grilles and centre console, while premium carpet mats and a cargo area cover replace the sturdy vinyl mats offered in the off-road variants.
Finally, a vintage-themed Dodge Challenger illustrates just how much scope Mopar's customisable parts list delivers.
Dubbed the Challenger T/A Concept, the model was first debuted at last year's SEMA show in Las Vegas. Finished in Sublime Green the Sam Posey-inspired Challenger combines modern muscle parts with heritage-inspired design cues, including full-length matte black T/A graphics, a Viper-inspired hood scoop, gloss black hood pins and a Mopar cold-air induction kit.
Added aero parts, a louder exhaust and hidden LED lights complete the Challenger T/A, which rides on 20-inch forged aluminium wheels stopped by six-pot Brembos up front; while inside the race-inspired cockpit includes a 180mph speedo, flat-bottom steering wheel, carbon-fibre seats and high-grip cloth upholstery for "improved lateral support".
"The company exhibit at the North American International Auto Show will highlight vehicles from all FCA brands, including three modified rides that illustrate how Mopar can assist customers in bringing to life their own personal vision of an FCA vehicle," explained Mopar president and CEO, Pietro Gorlier.
"Customers can pull from our portfolio of Mopar products to augment the versatility and capability of the all-new Jeep Renegade, as shown with two Mopar-equipped Renegade vehicles, or to beef up the muscle of the Dodge Challenger while adding a vintage feel, as demonstrated by the Dodge Challenge T/A Concept."
