Nissan has revealed the first teaser image of the 'Sway' concept car that's expected to preview its next-generation Micra city-car at next week's Geneva motor show.
No details were released with this single photograph, Nissan saying only that the all-new small-car concept is inspired by its edgy JUKE and QASHQAI small SUVs.
"Innovative design and product planning gave birth to Nissan QASHQAI and JUKE, two of the biggest automotive success stories of recent years," said Nissan in a press release issued overnight.
"What would happen if the company applied the same radical thinking and quality standards to one of the most important sectors in Europe: the small hatchback?
"To be unveiled at the 2015 Geneva motor show, Sway is a glimpse at how a future generation of small Nissan models could look if the company's striking new design language was applied to a European hatchback."
The concept is a radical departure from the rounded look of the current, third-generation Micra, which is in line for a facelift in Australia in April.
The replacement for Nissan's smallest and cheapest model, priced from $13,490 to rival micro-cars like the Holden Barina Spark, Mitsubishi Mirage and Suzuki Celerio, is not due for global release until next year.
Nissan has reportedly also started work on a successor for its compact JUKE crossover, an updated version of which is also due for local release in April.
