Nissan has finally released a SSS version of its Pulsar sedan, as part of a Series 2 upgrade now on sale.
Priced at $26,990 plus on-road costs, the SSS sedan was originally due on sale in Australia in the first half of last year.
It joins the Pulsar SSS hatch, which was released here in May 2013 and itself has had a $3800 price cut – from $29,790 to $25,990 – as part of the Series 2 Pulsar upgrade.
While the SSS sedan replaces the Ti and Ti-S variants in the Pulsar sedan line-up, which continues to start as $19,990 for the base ST.
In addition to the standard features of the previous Ti, the SSS sedan adds the same 140kW/240Nm 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine, SSS body kit with unique grille and bumpers, 17-inch SSS wheels and rear parking sensors as the SSS hatch.
The Series 2 Pulsar ST-L, meantime, is now $1200 cheaper than before at $22,490 but adds a 5.8-inch colour touch-screen with satellite-navigation, reverse camera with guidelines, and Bluetooth audio with streaming.
Base Series 2 Pulsar hatch pricing rises by $700 to $19,990 for the ST, while the ST-L is now $1600 cheaper at $20,990 yet adds rear parking sensors, while the previous mid-range ST-S sedan is discontinued.
As Nissan Australia continues to study the viability of importing the new Pulsar from Europe, sales of the model that replaced the Tiida here in early 2013 continue to slide – by 25 per cent last year and 18 per cent so far this year, when the Pulsar was outsold by the Toyota Corolla, Mazda3, Hyundai i30, Volkswagen Golf, Holden Cruze, Ford Focus and Kia Cerato.
