The makers of the latest instalment of the James Bond franchise have once again treated viewers to Aston Martin’s one-off DB10 in the heat of battle.
In the latest trailer, 007 is not only introduced to his new Aston Martin but is shown driving it and benefitting from some of Q’s special after-market options that include a flame thrower.
The DB10 is then shown in a chase sequence in Rome, before the trailer culminates in the snowy Alps where a Land Rover Defender is seen spinning mid-air after a collision.
Despite being ruled out for production, the new small coupe is said to give a “glimpse to the future design direction for the next generation of Aston Martins”.
Despite its futuristic outlook some trademark Aston design cues remain, like its trademark grille, long bonnet and flowing passenger compartment that's pushed back towards the rear axle.
Large wheels, short overhangs and a ground-hugging stance also feature and the new headlight design is said to be used again in the near future.
The design was led by Aston Martin's Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichman, and according to a press statement the team "worked closely" with Spectre's director, Sam Mendes, "to create the ultimate car for the world's most famous spy".
It’s not known what powers the DB10 following the technical partnership forged with Mercedes-AMG, but instead of a Merc-derived twin-turbocharged V8 we expected the DB10 to features Aston’s own 6.0-litre V12, if only to provide a suitable evocative soundtrack.
The 24th Bond film will premiere in Australia on November 6 and 'Spectre' will mark the 50th anniversary of the collaboration between Bond film makers EON productions and Aston Martin. The Aston DB5 first appeared in a James Bond film for the release of 'Goldfinger' in 1964, with Sean Connery at the wheel.
In total Aston Martin 10 DB10s were made for the James Bond producers with filming still ongoing. It’s unknown how many of those still exist.
