Lamborghini has shown off the roadster version of its hard-core Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce coupe at the Pebble Beach car show.
Just 500 examples of the new Roadster are expected to be made. Despite losing its roof, it weighs just 50kg more than the coupe’s 1575kg kerb weight.
Powered by the same 552kW/690Nm 6.5-litre V12 as the coupe – up from 515kW/690Nm in the standard Aventador — Lamborghini says its new top-shelf roadster will hit 100km/h in just 2.9 seconds — just a tenth slower than coupe. Its top speed, meanwhile, is said to be 349km/h.
Inside, the Roadster features the same lightweight, stripped-out interior that uses plenty of carbon-fibre to keep weight down, although leather and Alcantara still feature.
Instead of using a fabric roof, Lamborghini lightest and fastest drop-top has a carbon-fibre hard-top that weighs just 6kg and has seen plenty of wind tunnel testing for driving at very high speed.
As well as the removable panel the Aventador cabin also features a glass rear screen that can be lowered or raised, acting as a wind deflector when driving roof-less.
The Coupe SV’s limited 600-car run is already sold out despite costing a cool $882,650 plus on-road costs.
Given the standard Aventador LP700-4 Roadster — the most expensive Lambo currently available here at $795,000 plus ORCs — commands a $33,500 premium over the coupe on which it's based, the LP750-4 roadster could set a new benchmark above $915,000.
On sale in Europe around April-May 2016, expect the Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce Roadster to be with us in time for summer.
