Lotus celebrates with Elise 20th Anniversary Special Edition

Lost has marked 20 years of the Elise by unveiling a lighter, special-edition painted in a similar mustard yellow to the 1995 launch cars

The Elise 20th Anniversary is based on the recent Elsie Club Racer but is 10kg lighter, weighing in at 914kg.

Powered by the same 162kW 1.8-litre supercharged four-pot from the Elise S, the Anniversary Elise sprints to the 100km/h benchmark in just 4.6 seconds before topping out at 237km/h.

Standard equipment for the new special-edition includes lightweight black alloy wheels, lightweight sport seats available in leather or Alcantara and a lightweight centre console.

Engineers have also added a new sport mode to improve throttle response and allow more slip with the traction control still on.

Three other colours are also available: green, blue and silver.

It’s not know how many, if any, Elise 20th Anniversary Special Edition models will make it here.

Lotus vehicles sell in very small numbers in Australia, with a total of just 61 sold in 2014 — down from 71 in 2013. The Exige S was its most popular model in 2014, with 29 vehicles finding homes, while 23 Elises and nine Evoras were registered.

To date, Lotus has sold 32,000 Elises globally since its launch at the Frankfurt motor show back in September 1995.

In the UK the special-edition Elise costs $77,000 -- $5200 more than the standard Elise S.
