GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: McLaren's 497kW 675LT is here

McLaren has revealed full details and pics of its track-focused 675LT designed to do battle with Ferrari’s new 488 GTB

McLaren has released pics and full details of its new 675LT supercar that’s been described by the British car maker as offering “ultimate levels of driver engagement.”

Powered by the same 3.8-litre V8 twin-turbo as the 650S the new track-focused, but road legal, McLaren generates 497kW/700Nm - that’s 4kW more than the new Ferrari 488 GTB that’s also being revealed at Geneva, but 60Nm less in torque -- but McLaren still delivers the killer blow. Weighing just 1230kg (dry) the lighter 675LT has what’s McLaren’s declaring an unbeatable power-to-weight ratio of 404kW-per-tonne.

Performance should also be class best. Weighing in 100kg lighter than the 650S the 675LT sprints to 100km/h in 2.9 seconds and 200km/h in an incredible 7.9s before topping out at 330km/h.

Differing substantially from the 650S the 675LT, that pays homage to the old F1 GTR Longtail, gains a far more aggressive look. At the front there’s an extended carbon fibre splitter while at the side are prominent extended door blades that directs air to additional cooling intakes. At the rear, meanwhile, is a full titanium exhaust system and a ‘Longtail’ airbrake that’s 50 per cent bigger than the 650S’.

To create the extra power McLaren claims more than 50 per cent of the engine is all-new, from upgraded turbos, new cylinder heads and manifolds to a new camshaft and lightweight connecting rods.

The huge 100kg weight saving, McLaren has confirmed, comes from lighter new engine parts, carbon fibre body panels and the exposed lightweight exhaust. There’s also a new lightweight polycarbonate rear screen that feature louvres.

The 675LT will be offered in just four bespoke colours, Silica White, Napier Green, Delta Red and Chicane Grey.

Inside the interior’s been stripped back to the essentials with a pair of ultra-light carbon fibre bucket seats dominating the cabin.

Air conditioning has been retained despite the McLaren 675LT’s big diet, although its controls have been sacrificed and incorporated into the infotainment system.

Despite the extra power and performance McLaren has confirmed the 675LT averages 11.7l/100km while emitting 275g/km of CO2 - exactly the same as the less powerful 650S.

Pricing is expected to be announced following its official unveiling at the Geneva show.
