Peugeot has confirmed it will reveal its hottest ever 308 GTi at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Set to be unveiled June 25, details remain scarce of how powerful or, what indeed, the new Gallic Golf GTI will be powered by, but the safe money is it will come with the near 200kW/330Nm 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol from the current RCZ-R coupe.
Fitted with the RCZ-R’s traction-aiding mechanical differential, the 308 GTi is expected to nail the 0-100km/h dash in around 6.0 seconds and top 260km/h.
Borrowing its steroidal-enhanced looks from the 308 R concept, the GTi (that’s expected to only be available with five doors) will have wider wheel arches, new front and rear bumpers and a performance exhaust.
Limiting its on-the-limit handling, the fastest 308 is expected to retain the standard hatch’s rear torsion beam set-up but get bespoke spring and damper settings, plus a sport setting for its ESP.
Set to go on sale later this year in Europe, the 308 GTi should arrive in Australia early 2016.
As well as the 308 GTi, Peugeot will also front up at Goodwood with its hardcore 368kW all-wheel drive 308 R HYbrid concept it revealed at April’s Shanghai motor show.
