Porsche’s hard-core replacement for the the GT3 RS will be powered by a new 368kW/480Nm 4.0-litre flat-six engine, according to a leaked Porsche document that surfaced on Twitter last night.
Leaked by Twitter user @AxisofOversteer, the four-page document is water marked with “confidential” and “draft” and is thought to be an official pre-Geneva motor show spec sheet for the production RS model.
The spec sheet reveals Porsche's most extreme version of the 911 will, like the regular GT3, only be available with the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic gearbox, but the RS does gain bespoke shorter gear ratios for better in-gear acceleration.
Like the former 997 GT3 RS, the new 991 version comes with a wider body, in this case 50mm wider at the front and 30mm wider at the back, compared to the current GT3. This is to accommodate the RS’ 36mm wider wheel track.
To boost performance the RS will be significantly lighter than the standard GT3. According to the spec sheet the RS’ front bonnet, wings, rear boot lid, spoiler and bucket seats are all made out of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic, while the roof is made of magnesium alloy.
Even the rear and side window glass have been ditched for lighter polycarbonate ones.
The GT3 RS will also have its own aero package with large front splitter and rear spoiler.
According to some sources, Porsche will ditch the current GT3’s 3.8-litre engine for a detuned version of the new 4.0-litre engine next year, while the rest of the 911 range will gain new smaller capacity turbocharged engines.
A new even more powerful 911 GT2 is also rumoured to be in development.
Porsche will release performance and pricing for the GT3 RS at the Geneva motor show next month.
