Volkswagen has announced the first limited-edition 'Wolfsburg Edition' version of both its Golf R hatch and its new Golf R Wagon – and they're both coming to Australia.
In fact, Volkswagen's first Golf R Wagon – which scored a commendable 88/100 rating when we reviewed it at its European launch in May -- will come here exclusively in Wolfsburg Edition form.
Depending on production, only around 200 examples of each body style will be imported to Australia, with first deliveries commencing in September.
On sale now priced at $56,990 plus on-road costs, the special hatch commands a $1750 price premium over the existing Golf R five-door auto ($55,240 plus ORCs), while the Golf R Wagon Wolfsburg Edition costs another $2000 more at $58,990 plus ORCs.
The only option available will be a panoramic electric glass sunroof ($1850).
Volkswagen says both Wolfsburg specials – named after the German town in which the first 'Beetle' was produced and where the European car-making giant now calls home -- offer excellent value and unparalleled exclusivity, particularly the wagon as it will be the only version sold Down Under.
Unique features include the iconic 'wolf and castle' Wolfsburg crest emblem that adorned the original Volkswagen's steering wheel, the choice of three exterior paint colours including the exclusive Oryx White Pearl, Carbon Nappa leather appointed upholstery , four black Pretoria 19-inch alloy wheels, black door mirror covers and black roof rails (Wagon).
Extra standard equipment, meantime, include heated front seats, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Front Assist with City Emergency Brake (City EB), Blind Spot Monitor with rear traffic alert and proactive occupant protection system.
Naturally, both Wolfsburg models are powered by the Golf R's 205kW/380Nm 2.0-litre TSI four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, matched to a six-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission and 4Motion all-wheel-drive.
