Volkswagen goes GT6 mad

GTI Supersport Vision Gran Turismo virtual supercar now available for PS3

Volkswagen has revealed another digital supercar designed specifically for PlayStation 3's Gran Turismo 6 driving simulator.

Like the German giant's previous roadster-based virtual racer, the GTI Supersport Vision Gran Turismo is unlikely to preview a production version that will grace a VW showroom near you any time soon.

But key features of the aerodynamically optimised body could hint at future Volkswagen road-car designs, including the vertical light modules, a huge honeycomb-mesh front air-dam,massive roof-edge spoiler and flamboyant diffuser.

Less likely for the street is the digital car's six-cylinder turbocharged VR6 TSI engine, which VW says slams out 375kW and 665Nm and gives it a power-to-weight ratio of just 2.5kg per horsepower.

Equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, 4MOTION all-wheel drive and 20-inch alloy wheels, Volkswagen claims the digital racer can hit 100km/h in 3.6 seconds on its way to a 300km/h top speed, putting it firmly in supercar territory.

VW's 'Supersport' GTI is now available to download for GT6, which now includes 1200 different vehicles and 37 circuits, in Reflex Silver, Gran Turismo Red, Lapiz Blue or Oryx White.
