The picture accompanying this article is a teaser supplied by Toyota, but what does it show?
According to the manufacturer, this image is a heavily cropped view of a new concept car that will make its debut in the UK next week.
Toyota is saying little at this stage, but has declared this concept car is production ready – and it will enter series production. Apparently Toyota has already worked out the final cost of the car on the road, based on building to a budget that will snare the "widest possible market."
The manufacturer also says that this car will be involving to drive, declaring it will take "fun-to-drive" qualities to "a higher level."
In the post 86 era, that sounds promising at least... but the veiled references to affordability and its potentially limited release in Europe suggest it's a replacement for the iQ hatch that has sold there for a number of years. Toyota has described its teaser image and the press release accompanying it as a break with tradition, telegraphing the introduction of a concept car outside the traditional international motor show forum. The new model, Toyota seems to suggest, will be a paradigm not only for the corporate look of all future Toyotas, but cars from other brands also.
"Full details of the RND Concept will be announced next week, but ahead of the official unveiling I can say that this is something we are proud of and that will make a valuable contribution to the world we live in," said President of Toyota GB, Matt Harrison, as quoted in a press release.
