US car-maker Dodge will whip the covers off its new-look 2015 Challenger muscle car at the 2014 New York motor show on April 17.
First launched in 2008, the new 2015 Dodge Challenger will be "new from the inside out" says the company, so expect a fresh design and a modern interior for the two-door, rear-drive V8-powered coupe.
The new model will be a facelift rather than an all-new model, as it's based on the current car's architecture (pictured). As such, it's a 'no show' for Australia as it is only manufactured in left-hand drive.
In contrast, the next generation Challenger is a possibility for Australia.
The head of international market product planning for Chrysler Jeep Dodge, Steve Bartoli, told motoring.com.au in December 2013 that when the all-new model arrives in a few years, it could be right-hand drive.
Although there's been a significant focus on the new Aussie-bound Ford Mustang of late, Dodge will be hoping to steal the spotlight in New York with its new-look Challenger.
With the teaser photos showing the Super Bee logo, expect a reworked engine to be a key part of the new Challenger. Nothing is official, but there is talk in the US of high-output Hellcat or possibly even Scat Pack V8 engines, but more power is certainly on the agenda.
Dodge would only say that a new powertrain combination will have enthusiasts "abuzz".
The updated Challenger will be joined by a new-look version of its family-friendly four-door cousin, the Charger, which the company says is the "world's most successful four-door muscle car".
It's slab-sided design could be in for a workover, as Dodge says "nearly every single body panel" is being "resculpted". It will shown alongside the Challenger at Dodge's 2014 New York motor show exhibit.
