Fiat Chrysler Australia has confirmed today that the Freemont Cross will arrive here at some point during the third quarter of this year.
There's no word on a local price for the Freemont Cross yet, but the feature-packed model is likely to retain its reputation for strong value. Pricing in Australia will be decided by the variants Fiat chooses to import. In European markets (the Freemont Cross will debut in Geneva next month), the high-grade SUV is available with diesel power in two states of tune. The 2.0-litre Multijet II engine is more likely to come to Australia in auto-only (six-speed) all-wheel drive form, rather than the lower-spec models with front-wheel drive and manual transmissions, but don't rule them out either. An all-wheel drive model may be positioned above $40,000, but front-drive variants could start from around $35,000.
Like the Dodge Journey Crossroad, which won't be sold in Australia, the badge-engineered Freemont Cross features visual elements to enhance the vehicle's 'go anywhere' presence. Five-spoke black alloy wheels measuring 19-inch diameter are complemented by a glossy black grille and platinum chrome accents – including side skirts. Both headlight and tail light bezels are finished in black.
Inside, the Freemont Cross comes with leather seat trim in 'Liquid Graphite', with sports mesh-style inserts and light grey stitching. Chrysler's Uconnect infotainment system is standard, with an 8.4-inch touch screen and satellite navigation. Other features include reverse parking sensors, an Alpine premium audio system with six-speakers, electric heated and folding door mirrors, six airbags, illuminated cup holders and keyless entry/start.
