Two of the most sought-after examples of Ford's most powerful Falcon ever, the FPV GT F super-sedan, will be donated to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Ford Australia has announced it has reserved build numbers 001 and 500 for auction via eBay, as part of the car-maker's $125 million global contribution to breast cancer research over more than 20 years.
The highly-prized GT Fs will be auctioned on eBay between August 17 and 24, when Ford will employ the hashtag #PinkIsTheNewBlue to urge Blue Oval fans to 'think pink' for the worthy cause.
Ford says the majority of what it expects will be "considerable" proceeds – given the historical significance of the last ever FPV models -- will go the NBCF, to which Ford Australia has contributed $1.2 million over the past decade.
Funds will be ploughed into research that aims to develop a cure for the cancer, as part of the NBCF's goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.
"We are using the power of our most powerful GT ever to help the National Breast Cancer Foundation further fund breast cancer research,” said Ford Australia President and CEO, Bob Graziano.
“These two iconic vehicles are the result of the innovation and passion of Ford and its engineers, and we aim to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the equally passionate researchers in their bid to achieve a future of zero deaths from breast cancer.
“We are totally committed to this cause and moving forward, one of the key priorities will be continuing our support of the communities in which we live and work, along with the broader Australian community," he said.
Painted Kinetic Blue with a matte black stripe package, FPV GT F 001 comes complete with Victorian registration GTF 001 and a manual transmission, and was the 'hero car' for the model’s launch program, featuring in video clips, social media campaigns and the road test program.
FPV GT F 500, on the other hand, is a brand-new vehicle that's yet to be built, but will come with a manual transmission and the paint colour and stripe combination of the winning bidder's choice.
Both vehicles are powered by a supercharged 5.0-litre DOHC all-aluminium V8 engine producing 570Nm of torque and 351kW – hence the the '351' badge that pays tribute to the 351 cubic-inch (5.8-litre) V8 seen on track and off in the Falcon GT of the late ‘60s and ‘70s.
“At the National Breast Cancer Foundation we’ve long been very appreciative of Ford’s support but this is quite unexpected,” said NBCF CEO, Carole Renouf.
"We are honoured that these two significant vehicles are being auctioned to benefit breast cancer research and form part of Ford’s fundraising efforts for the year.
“The National Breast Cancer Foundation understands the historical importance of these cars to enthusiasts. I am pleased that they will know that they are also supporting a tremendous cause.
“Thanks to the ongoing support of the community and corporate partners such as Ford, we can continue our efforts to reduce the impact of breast cancer on Australians through research.”
Simultaneous auctions for both vehicles will go live on eBay on the evening of Sunday, August 17.
The auctions are open to all individuals and organisations in Australia and bidders will have just seven days to make their best offer before the auctions conclude at 8:00pm on Sunday, August 24.
