Here’s a chance to grab a genuine V12-engined Ferrari for about the same price you’d pay for a new Hyundai i20.
Shannons has quoted a guiding range of $15,000 to $20,000 for the right-hand drive Ferrari 400i coupe that will be going under the hammer at its annual Late Summer Auction to be held on February 17.
As you might expect, the metallic green Italian front-engine thoroughbred, which has just come out of long-term storage, is not exactly in pristine condition. The vendor might have spent approximately $25,000 on maintenance in recent years, but that probably barely touched the surface of what would be needed to bring it up to pristine condition.
Shannons tell us the British-delivered 1980 Ferrari’s body and paintwork “require some TLC” while the 228kW 4.8-litre V12 engine “and other mechanical components” may also benefit from some attention.
On the positive side, the car’s leather upholstery shows “an acceptable patina” and the original Cromodora factory alloy wheels are in “great shape.”
For some, just having a genuine Ferrari in the garage at home would be justification enough for setting off on an unknown long-term financial commitment.
