Move over Gallardo, you've been superseded by the Huracán LP620-2 Super Trofeo.
Yes, Lamborghini's decade old race car has been superseded by the most ferocious Huracán yet seen.
Revealed during last weekend's Monterey Car Week in California, the race-ready Lambo weighs just 1270kg dry – down from 1422kg for the road-going version -- with 58 per cent of that over the rear wheels.
That's despite the addition of a full roll cage that extends to the rear axle, weighs 43kg and increases torsional body stiffness by a huge 45 per cent over the Gallardo Super Trofeo.
The supercar's hybrid carbon/aluminium chassis features modified geometries to house an improved radiator up front and better accommodate the racing gearbox at the rear, which also provides better aerodynamics. There's also a new oil radiator.
Helping reduce weight is the removal of all-wheel drive and composite bodywork equipped with ‘fast fittings’ and developed in collaboration with Dallara Engineering, complemented by a rear wing with 10 different settings, front and rear diffusers and adjustable front air intake ducts.
But the key to improving the standard Huracan's 0-100km/h acceleration (3.2 seconds) is a modified direct-injection V10 managed by a MOTEC M182 control unit to deliver 620hp (462kW) and a power to weight ratio of 2.05kg/hp.
Other mechanical upgrades include new engine mounts, a new three-disc clutch and an XTrac sequential gearbox driving the rear wheels and developed specifically for the Huracán Super Trofeo with an electric actuator designed by Magneti Marelli Motorsport.
There's also a full electronics upgrade including new lightweight cables and connections, a new TFT dashboard display amd Bosch Motorsport anti-lock brakes and traction control featuring 12 steering wheel-activated settings to suit different weather/track conditions.
The racing Huracan will be equipped exclusively with Pirelli tyres measuring 305/660-18 at the front and 315/680-18 at the rear. There's also fully adjustable anti-roll bars and two-way adjustable Ohlins dampers, while the hydraulic power steering enhances steering sensitivity and adopts an electric power pump.
Inside the race-specific interior Alcantara trim in Nero Ade colour covers the dash, central tunnel, steering wheel, gear shifter and racing seats.
The Huracan racer will contest all three series (Europe, Asia and North America) of the 2015 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, starting in Japan on August 29.
