Toyota Yaris facelift leaked

First images of Toyota's facelifted Yaris emerge online ahead of its release here this year

Toyota Australia has confirmed it will release a facelifted version of the Yaris here this year.

However, it will not confirm whether these leaked images of a facelifted version of the Asian-market Toyota Vitz (which is sold in Australia and Europe as the Yaris) are indicative of the model we’ll see Down Under in 2014.

“The facelifted Yaris will be introduced here later in the year,” confirmed Toyota Australia spokesman Mike Breen. “That’s about all I can tell you at this stage.”

Images of the 2015 Vitz, which appear to have been scanned from a Japanese sales brochure, first emerged on Italian automotive blog site Jokeforblog, revealing detailed exterior and interior shots of mainstream and RS versions.

Toyota UK has confirmed to Autocar that the facelifted Yaris will go on sale in Great Britain from May.

The images reveal a more aggressive front-end design that brings the model in line with the Yaris Hybrid not sold here, including a full-width grille that links new triangular-shaped headlights, above a deeper front bumper with large central and side air intakes.

Inside, there are more premium trims and a revised dashboard design dominated by what appears to be a larger central touch-screen, which is likely to feature the latest Toyota Link infotainment system.

While the sports-flagship Vitz RS pictured is unlikely to be sold here, expect the changes to apply to both three- and five-door versions of the mainstream Yaris available in Australia since October 2011, priced from $14,990.

Whether the changes also apply to the Yaris sedan – an older model that dates back to March 2006 – remains to be seen.

The Yaris was a long-time leader of Australia’s light-car sales segment before being outsold by the Mazda2 last year. The smallest Mazda continues to prove more popular than Toyota’s smallest model so far this year, and an all-new Mazda2 is due on sale here in October.
