Ford's dynamic driving systems for Mustang

Advanced safety features tame the wild horse... without breaking the driver's spirit
Ford's 2015 Mustang will introduce launch control and a sports-oriented stability control system at a price expected to undercut German prestige rivals boasting the same technology by many thousands of dollars.
The new systems are a must for next year's Mustang, which will go global in a sales campaign likely to see the Ford pitted against those very same German prestige rivals in other markets – like Australia, for instance. In its home market in the USA, the Mustang enjoys a strong traditional following, but elsewhere around the world the 2015 model will need to conquest sales largely on merit. New technology will be central to that.
"While Mustang unquestionably has always been about the ride, we can now do a lot of cool things with technology to let the true personality of the car come through the driver's fingers and backside," said Dave Pericak, Mustang chief engineer, as quoted in a press release.
"Everything we added to Mustang is designed to let its drivers personalize the car to their tastes and wants to get the most out of it no matter how or where they drive."
The four-mode stability control system on board offers the driver manual selection by means of a button at the base of the centre fascia. In Normal mode the car operates in a default setting. Sport+ is the mode for driving enjoyment, with the system adjusting steering feedback, throttle and automatic transmission shift points for optimal dynamic ability on the road.
As the name suggests, the Track mode is intended for use on closed competition venues and only intervenes in extreme situations. The final mode is 'Snow/wet', which ensures power delivery and steering response is not too sharp for the prevailing environmental conditions.
Steering assistance and traction control can be adjusted independently of the stability control system, which allows steering, throttle and shift points to be individually calibrated to suit the driver. Launch Control is standard on the V8-engined Mustang GT.
Ford also intends for the next Mustang to incorporate other high-tech features long associated with premium brands. Among those are HID (High-Intensity Discharge) headlights, tyre-pressure monitoring, SYNC and SYNC AppLink infotainment and communications system, MyKey, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), cross-traffic alert.
Comfort and convenience features to be offered in the Mustang include: Keyless entry/start, reversing camera, ultrasonic parking sensors (rear), auto headlights, rain-sensing wipers and electrically-adjustable seats with position memory.
