Australian prices for Land Rover's upcoming Range Rover Velar have now been fixed in place, following a final specification tweak that has raised the starting price from $70,300 originally announced to $70,950.
According to JLR Australia, the added $650 pays for a 'remote' function for the InControl Touch infotainment system.
The starting price buys the base-grade Velar P250, powered by a 184kW turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, with eight-speed automatic transmission and standard features including six airbags, alarm, keyless entry, voice control, cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring, a triple-split folding rear seat, an eight-speaker audio system with Bluetooth connectivity, 18-inch alloy wheels and reverse-parking sensors.
In keeping with JLR's promise three months ago, the Velar will arrive in Australia two to three months from now in a comprehensive range of models – 42 variants all up.
Right at the very pinnacle of the range are First Edition models with the P380 model priced at $169,150. For all that lucre the buyer gets the following standard gear: solar-attenuating windscreen, adaptive cruise control with Queue Assist/Intelligent Emergency Braking, Head-Up Display, Terrain Response 2, air suspension, active locking rear differential, Interactive Driver Display, Activity Key, Navigation Pro, Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Driver Condition Monitor and Reverse Traffic Detection.
Specifications for the new model were revealed at the Velar's official unveiling back in March.
In other news, JLR has announced the Ingenium four-cylinder petrol in two states of tune are to be offered in the Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque with effect from the fourth quarter of this year. It's the first time the petrol Ingenium engines have been slotted into the engine bay of Land Rover vehicles.
In addition, a higher-performance (177kW) version of the Ingenium diesel powerplant will expand the Discovery Sport and Evoque ranges to three diesel variants each.
The Evoque for the 2018 model year will feature a new selection of exterior colours: Fuji White (opaque) and Narvik Black (opaque), Yulong White (metallic), Indus Silver (metallic), Corris Grey (metallic), Santorini Black (metallic), Loire Blue (metallic), Firenze Red (metallic), Kaikoura Stone (metallic), Silicon Silver (premium) and Carpathian Grey (premium).
