Small four-cylinders may now be our favourite style of car, but size still matters to many Aussie families. Wheels magazine helps you make the big choice

Never before have there been so many different ways to transport your clan. Soft-roader or medium four? Full-size 4WD or six-pot sedan? Various models in all categories are capable of answering the needs of anyone living a life of non-bachelorhood, but it’s the large six-cylinder sedans that still offer the utmost in terms of size, value, performance, and comfort - despite what sales figures are starting to suggest.

With Toyota's Aurion, Holden's VE Commodore, and Ford's BF Series II Falcon preparing for all-out war at the tail end of 2006, is there any life left in the models soon to begin run-out incentives or a special-edition frenzy - namely Commodore, Falcon and Camry V6?

While we're at it, how does Mitsubishi's all-new 380 fare in its volume-selling form against stylish, great-value arrivals like Hyundai's promising new Sonata Elite V6? And if you're talking $35-40K six-pack sedans, what about Nissan's elegant, equally fine-value Maxima ST-L? There's not a bad car among them.
