SPY PICS: Genesis G70 snapped at the 'Ring
Hyundai's luxury brand pounds its new 3-series rival around Germany's best-known trackHyundai's highly anticipated Genesis G70 luxury sports sedan has been spotted again, this time testing at Germany's venerable race track, the Nurburgring.
The sedan will sit directly below Genesis's G80 and will be aimed squarely at rivalling the likes of BMW's 3-Series, Mercedes' C-Class and Audi's A4. It also promises to be a nuisance for the Lexus IS, Infiniti Q50, Jaguar XE and Volvo S60.
According to sources close to the G70 project, when the sedan arrives in Australia late next year it will be powered by a 3.3-litre turbo-petrol V6 good for 270kW and an impressive 510Nm of torque.
While the G70 may be aimed at taking on the big three Germans, don't expect the mid-size Genesis to wear the same price tag. In fact, there is talk the sedan may cost less than $50,000 when it arrives on our shores.
The G70 is also expected to cater for the performance motoring enthusiast with an "N" variant of the sedan also under development. That variant will go gunning for BMW M3 and Mercedes AMG C63, although tackling those two cars will be a big ask for the newcomer.
There is also talk of a G70 coupe which could be offered to the Australian market, and would vie against the BMW 4-series and Mercedes C-class coupe.
