SPY PICS: Toyota Supra takes to the track

Old name for a new car, running on architecture shared by Toyota and BMW

Toyota's modern interpretation of its cult sports car, the Supra, has been spotted in heavy camouflage testing at the Nurburgring.

The Supra was seen leaving BMW's – yes, BMW's – private facility at the Nurburgring before heading out onto the track for some hot laps.

Toyota and BMW are jointly developing a sports-car platform that will underpin the new Supra – a name known from the past – and BMW's Z4 replacement, unofficially named the Z5.

There is also a video of the camouflaged Supra testing at the ring (see below). The exhaust note of the test car, which can be clearly heard on the video, would suggest that the sports coupe will indeed be a turbocharged six cylinder motor, just as rumours in the past have suggested.

While there is no official word as to when the Supra will be unveiled, sources claim it could be launched as soon as 2018.
