Aircraft manufacturer, Airbus, has teamed up with car stylist Italdesign to create a novel new concept that tackles congestion in cities by transforming your car into a helicopter.
Unveiled at last week's Geneva motor show, the new concept called the Pop.Up combines a pure-electric car platform with a passenger capsule and fully autonomous quadcopter.
Get stuck in traffic and the car's owner can call in for the robo-cavalry.
Once arrived the pure-electric quadcopter identifies its owner and carefully docks with the passenger capsule.
Combined, the quadcopter then lifts the passenger capsule and leaves behind the car platform.
According to its creators, the flying part of your journey is fully autonomous and doesn't need a pilot's licence.
Designed for short commutes, the capsule and quadcopter can journey to a specific location or even fly on to another mode of transport, like Elon Musk's Hyperloop for high-speed long distance travel.
Despite appearing more flight of fancy than anything approaching reality, Airbus claims an evolution of the Pop.Up concept could be on sale within seven-to-ten years.
