Volvo Trucks has proved it makes the world's fastest truck by pitching The Iron Knight against the Swedish car-maker's S60 Polestar WTCC racer.
Running the truck-maker's ‘D13’ power unit and I-Shift Dual Clutch transmission, the big rig's 12.8-litre straight-six engine has been tuned from 275kW/2372Nm to a mightier 1765kW/6000Nm.
On paper, the 300kW S60 WTCC race car doesn't stand a chance until you remember the tractor unit weighs in at a hefty 4500kg.
Damp conditions also helped swing in favour of the front-wheel drive S60 but it wasn’t enough for the car.
Producing 300kW and weighing in at just 1100kg, the racer struggled with traction and The White Knight walked it.
The WTCC racer reclaimed some glory later on though, on a tight and twisting circuit, but by then it was too late: truck had beaten car.
Earlier in the year the custom-built truck set an FIA-verified acceleration record for a truck, recording a 13.7-second sprint to 500 metres and a 21.3sec dash to 1000m.
