McLaren has teased a picture and released a video on all its social media channels that previews the McLaren 720S Spider ahead of its reveal in the early hours of Sunday, December 9.
Set to be revealed at 20:00 GMT on December 8 (06:00 AEST December 9), the roofless McLaren 720S Spider follows the recently unveiled Speedtail as the small British supercar-maker races to expand its model line-up.
The McLaren 720S Spider will be only the second convertible model McLaren has on sale, following the 570S Spider, but it's interesting the Woking-based company hasn't teased the McLaren 720S Spider's roof mechanism.
This has prompted some to suggest the Ferrari 488 Spider rival's roof might feature a new design. In any case, expect it to incorporate plenty of lightweight carbon-fibre reinforced plastics.
McLaren hasn't released any more details, but even with the added weight of the electric roof motor, which is expected to add around 50kg to the kerb weight, performance is unlikely to be affected.
That means that, thanks to the same twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 -- which in the coupe produces 527kW and 770Nm of torque -- the 720S Spider should easily match the tin-top's ability to reach 100km/h in 2.9 seconds, 200km/h in 7.8 seconds, before topping out at 341km/h.
Handling, too, should be as sharp as the coupe's, thanks to the 720S' extremely stiff and rigid Monocage II carbon-fibre architecture.
More details and further teases are expected ahead of the 720S Spider's launch next month.
