BMW Australia has announced pricing and specification details for the new 8 Series Gran Coupe, which has been slated for an October arrival locally.
Priced from $199,900 (plus on-road costs), the new 8 Series Gran Coupe is closely related to the existing 8 Series Coupe and 8 Series Convertible, bringing a four-door layout and an identical 250kW/500Nm 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six as the recently announced 840i Coupe and Convertible, or a 390kW/750Nm 4.4-litre V8 in the case of the flagship M850i Gran Coupe flagship.
The entry-level 840i four-door undercuts the equivalent 840i Coupe by $3000, and like that car, sends drive to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic. The all-important 0-100km/h time takes 5.2 seconds, while an official fuel consumption figure is yet to be provided.
The interior offers a 4+1 layout, the rear bleachers with a 40:20:40 split-fold arrangement. The boot area measures 440 litres, according to BMW.
For $200k, the four-door 8 Series packages as standard: M Sport package, 20-inch M alloys with run-flat tyres, soft-close doors, the BMW Display Key, Driving Assistant Professional and Parking Assistant Plus tech packages, laser headlights, a panoramic glass sunroof, keyless entry and start.
Performance features on the 840i Gran Coupe comprise adaptive M suspension, 374mm M Sport brakes and an M Sport rear differential.
Inside, the four-door employs a familiar 12.30-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch central display, driven by BMW’s ubiquitous iDrive control and the car-maker’s latest 7.0 software. Gesture control, heated and ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone charging, a 16-speaker harman/kardon surround sound system, 'Merino' upholstery, electric roller sunblinds, and multifunctional front seats with lumbar support are among the 840i Gran Coupe’s mod-cons.
Sitting atop of the range is the M850i xDrive Gran Coupe, priced from $272,900 plus on-road costs.
The same stonking 4.4-litre V8 resides under the engine bay as the equivalent Coupe and Convertible models, bringing all-wheel drive grip and a hastened 0-100km/h time of 3.9 seconds.
The flagship adds Adaptive M Suspension Professional with active-roll stabilisation, 20-inch M light alloy wheels with performance tyres, BMW 'CraftedClarity' glass ornamentation, BMW Night Vision with pedestrian detection, larger 395mm M Sport brakes (up from 374mm in the 840i), and a tyre pressure indicator.
