Australian pricing and specs have been announced for the all-new Audi Q3 Sportback before it hits local showrooms in March.
The headline act for the ‘coupe’ version of the new-generation Audi Q3 compact SUV launched here last October is a $49,900 starting price for the entry-level Audi Q3 Sportback 35 TFSI.
That makes Audi’s newest Sportback model $3500 more expensive than the equivalent version of the regular Q3, which is also powered by a 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired exclusively to a six-speed S tronic automatic. Both models send 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque to the front wheels only.
The Audi Q3 Sportback 35 TFSI will be available from launch in both standard and Launch Edition form, both equipped with an S line exterior package, followed by a more powerful 40 TFSI quattro model.
Standard gear includes 19-inch alloy wheels, Audi drive select with progressive steering, wireless phone charging, a virtual cockpit with navigation, digital radio, dual-phone Bluetooth connectivity, voice control, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and more.
The addition of Audi connect plus will also allow for live traffic updates and avoidance options, petrol station prices, weather updates and more, thanks to high-speed internet access.
Leather-appointed seats, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, keyless entry and a leather-clad steering wheel are also standard, as is safety tech like autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane departure warning, lane support, rear cross traffic alert, tyre pressure monitoring and a reversing camera.
Priced at $56,450 before on-roads, the Launch Edition adds metallic paint, tinted windows, a black exterior styling package, heated and folded side mirrors and a better sound system.
Other equipment like electric front seats with lumbar adjustment and heating, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control and active lane assist is also included.
The more powerful all-wheel drive 40 TFSI will be powered by a 132kW/320Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired to a seven-speed S tronic transmission.
Despite being lower, longer and featuring a more raking rear-end than its Q3 sibling, the Audi Q3 Sportback has the same 530-litre luggage capacity in the boot, extending to 1400 litres with the rear seats folded.
Audi Australia managing director Paul Sansom said that in a single generation, the original Audi Q3 established itself as the benchmark in its class, which includes the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
“The new model is stronger in every conceivable area, and the very first Q3 Sportback offers an even more expressive alternative for buyers,” he said.
“The growing share of the premium compact SUV segment shows no sign of slowing down, and so the Q3 Sportback is absolutely the right car at the right time for the Australian market.”
