Bentley has unwrapped its new facelifted Bentley Bentayga Hybrid, the global best-selling variant of the British brand's luxury SUV and the first of two plug-in Bentaygas it will launch in 2021.
Joining the twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 and the flagship twin-turbo 6.0-litre W12 that lives under the bonnet of the rapid Bentayga Speed, the electrified Bentley keeps the pre-facelift SUV's powertrain.
This is a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine paired with a 94kW electric motor that, combined, generates an impressive 330kW and 700Nm of torque.
There's no word if there's been any improvement in the performance department, but it's unlikely. Expect the Bentayga Hybrid to hit 100km/h in the same 5.5 seconds as before, with a top speed of 254km/h.
Thanks to an on-board 17.3kWh lithium-ion battery, the Bentayga Hybrid also offers a WLTP-verified electric-only driving range of 39km.
On electric power alone the big luxury SUV can travel at speeds of up to 135km/h. When depleted, the battery has a maximum charging rate of 7.2kWh, enabling a full charge to take 2.5 hours using a domestic plug socket.
Fuel consumption is as low as 3.3L/100km on the official combined cycle, with emissions of 78g/km of CO2.
Like the rest of the range, the Bentayga Hybrid facelift focuses on a new exterior design that sees the big SUV's styling more in line with the much newer Bentley Continental GT coupe and the Bentley Flying Spur limo.
There's a taller, squarer nose, smaller headlights and a revamped rear where the tailgate gains a pair of elliptical lamps.
Inside, there's yet more substantial change. The centre console is all new and houses a larger 10.9-inch infotainment system, while ahead of the driver there's both a new steering wheel and fully digital instrument cluster.
Buyers can choose between a four- and five-seat layout, with the latter enabling occupants to recline far more than before. The even more opulent four-seat version is said to now offer an additional 30mm of kneeroom for the full high-riding limo experience.
New trim, colours and leather options have also been introduced, allowing each owner to further tailor the Maserati Levante rival to their individual tastes.
Australian pricing has yet to be confirmed, but it's thought the Bentayga Hybrid will be timed to arrive in the third quarter of 2021, with the launch in markets like China and the US taking priority.
