BMW Australia has announced a $21,710 price reduction for its top-shelf mid-size coupe, the M4 CS, before customers even take delivery.
As part of a realigned line-up that also sees the standard M3 sedan, M4 Coupe and M4 Convertible dropped, the M3 range now comprises Pure (from $129,900 plus on-road costs) and Competition ($144,900 plus ORCs) models, and the BMW M4 Convertible is now available only in Competition spec ($165,900 plus ORCs).
Meantime, the revised M4 Coupe line-up continues to open with the M4 Pure at $139,900 plus on-road costs.
However, the standard M4 Coupe (previously priced at $149,900 plus ORCs) has been axed, and the M4 Competition Coupe continues at $156,710 plus ORCs.
The biggest news though is the near-$22K price cut for the top-shelf M4 CS, which BMW announced would cost $211,610 plus ORCs in July – when it landed a facelifted M3 and M4 range.
Now it says a new price of $189,900 plus ORCs will apply to existing pre-orders as well as new customers of the M4 CS.
“We have been working hard behind the scenes to deliver strong pricing for our M vehicles,” said BMW Group Australia CEO, Marc Werner.
“By introducing the M4 Pure local editions, we have made this core M car more accessible than ever.
“In addition, internal and customer feedback has allowed us to re-examine the flagship M4 CS pricing. The result is a new price point of $189,900, and is available to customers who have pre-ordered a CS, as well as those planning to purchase in the future.
“This new M pricing structure is a sensational early Christmas present for BMW M customers,” Werner said.
The new sub-$190K price for the CS makes it a neat $50,000 pricier than the 331kW/550Nm M4 Pure and $33,190 more expensive than the same-output M4 Competition.
Perhaps more importantly, the ultimate M4 – apart from the sold-out $295K M4 GTS special limited to just 25 units – is now just over $26,000 more expensive than its most direct rival, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe ($163,611 plus ORCs).
Audi launches its second-generation RS 5 Coupe Down Under later this week.
As we’ve reported at length, the M4 CS runs a 338kW/600Nm version of BMW M’s twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline six, matching the torque output of the stripped-out M4 GTS but falling short of its 368kW power peak and 3.8sec 0-100km/h time -- by a tenth.
