Brabham Automotive has confirmed it will unveil its first new model -- called the BT62 -- in May and, to prove it, it has released a short video of it idling during testing.
Sounding more like a racer than a road car, the rough unsilenced noise the BT62 produces suggests it will be an unashamedly hard-core sports car that could form the basis for an extreme track-biased road car.
To the delight of enthusiasts, the fledgling car-maker -- created by late Australian racing legend Sir Jack Brabham's son David -- sounds like it could be packing a powerful V8.
Sadly, no further details have been released but David Brabham, himself a Le Mans winner and former F1 driver, has already announced that Brabham Automotive will operate with separate road and racing car divisions.
Backing up this approach, favoured by other car-makers like McLaren, are recent reports that the Brabham brand made an approach to take over the Force India F1 team, although that seems increasingly unlikely.following the launch of Force India's 2018 car.
Before the BT62 is revealed to the world in May, Brabham says it will complete its "rigorous and extensive engineering programme".
It's thought the BT62 might even spin-off a racer that could compete in the GT4 or GT3 category of sports car racing. If so, such a car could revive one of the most famous names in motorsport.
NSW-born three-time F1 world champion Sir Jack Brabham first took to the grid back in 1955 and continued to race in F1 until 1970.
Brabham Automotive founder David Brabham has also made an indelible mark on in the sport and is only one of four Australians to win the world famous Le Mans 24 Hour, back in 2009.
