Bugatti Chiron Raptor is insane

This is what happens when the Ford Ranger Raptor and Bugatti Chiron have a love child!

What's got a W16-cylinder quad-turbo engine, costs more than $3.3 million and can get seriously airborne over sand dunes?

The Rugatti Baptor of course!

Okay, so we made up that name (Raptron was the other option!), but this hyper-machine based on the already extreme Bugatti Chiron crossed with a Ford Ranger Raptor looks cherry-ripe to take on the Finke Desert Race.

Like those curious names, the design is a flight of fantasy too, but golly-gee it looks tough. Can you imagine blasting along a beach in this bad boy?

Chiron would be lucky to get over a speed bump

To call this exotic mudslinger 'rather rapid' would be like saying a royal baby is only of mild interest to the tabloids... The vehicle's mid-mounted 8.0-litre 16-cylinder engine drives all four wheels, dumping an otherworldly 1103kW and 1600Nm to the wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

Penned by Rain Prisk, who's behind other wicked designs like the Range Rover Velar ute, the Bugatti Chiron 4x4 design differs markedly from its ultra-rare, ultra fast 440km/h donor car.

Most notable changes are the lift kit, ultra-rugged tyres and offroad shock absorbers, that jack up ground clearance by a country mile.  There's also a front bash plate to protect all the carbon-fibre, and the electric winch will come in handy should hypothetical owners decide to loop it around a stout tree and haul the Rugatti Baptor up a steep cliff.

We wonder what interior changes would be required for an off-road version?

Other 'tweaks' include new-look headlights formed by Prisk's trademark 'X' LED daytime running lights. There's also new LED fog lights and a deeper fascia that joins to the bash plate below.

The wheel arches have been reshaped and there are provisions for roof-mounted gear like camping equipment and, perhaps, cartons of Blanc de Blancs champagne. The roof rack is attached via additional supports connected to the Bugatti's rear.

We can only hope one of the few hundred Bugatti Chiron owners decide to modify their two-seat uber-coupe into a desert dueller like this.

What do you think? If you were heading up the Oodnadatta track, would you take this dream machine or something that you could find spares for past Coward Springs? Have your say in the comments below.
