Jeep has made good on its promise to introduce a more affordable version of the Jeep Gladiator in Australia, releasing a Sport S version priced at $65,450 plus on-road costs.
Even before the US off-road brand had officially launched its all-new 4x4 dual-cab ute in Australia, local execs were promising that the range would be bolstered by a Jeep Gladiator Sport S range-opener priced some $10K cheaper than the Overland that, until now, started proceedings at $75,450 plus ORCs.
And so it has, with the 2021 Jeep Gladiator range now bookended by the Sport S and the Rubicon, which starts at $76,450 plus ORCs. The previous Launch Edition (from $86,450) has run its course.
Importantly, the Sport S carries the same key selling points as other members of the Gladiator line-up, including the 209kW/347Nm 3.6-litre Pentastar petrol V6, eight-speed automatic transmission, and Selec-Trac Active On-Demand 4x4 system, with dual-range transfer.
Exterior highlights include full LED lighting (headlights, daytime runners, fog lights and tail-lights), 17-inch Tech Silver alloy wheels, black fender flares and a black three-piece removable hard-top.
Standard driver assist safety tech includes forward collision warning plus, adaptive cruise control (with stop), blind spot monitoring, rear cross path detection, tyre pressure monitoring, a reversing camera and front/rear park assist.
Comfort and convenience spec extends to remote entry, push-button start, fourth-gen UConnect 7.0-inch touch-screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic headlights, 7.0-inch instrument cluster display, nine-speaker Alpine stereo and dual-zone climate control.
Compared to the Overland, the Jeep Gladiator Sport S drops its wheel and tyre size down an inch and misses out on items such as leather heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and the bigger 8.4-inch infotainment unit with sat-nav.
This infotainment shortfall can be specified in an optional $2450 ‘Comfort and Technology Group’ package that also includes tinted windows, remote starting, an alarm and hard-top headlining.
There’s also a $2950 ‘Lifestyle Adventure Group’ bundle for the Sport S that includes a roll-up tonneau cover, spray-in bedliner, cargo management system (with trail rails), lockable rear under-seat storage bin, wireless Bluetooth speaker, 240-amp alternator, 700-amp maintenance-free battery and auxiliary switch bank with four programmable switches.
Premium paint, which applies to all colours except Bright White and Black, adds a further $795.
In other Jeep news, the brand is giving away one of the latest, Queensland-built Patriot X3 family camper trailers valued at more than $70,000. Entry to the draw is via the purchase of at least $100 worth of Jeep genuine accessories, or by getting your vehicle serviced at a Jeep dealer.
Basically, the more you spend at the dealer, the more entries you get into the draw. The promotion runs until February 28 and you can click here to enter.
