Dark Shadow cast over BMW X7

Tough-looking special-edition flagship luxury SUV strictly limited to just 10 units

A dark, menacing limited-edition version of the BMW X7 is due to hit showrooms early next year – and you’d better get in quick if you want one.

The BMW X7 Dark Shadow Edition is due Down Under in March 2021, with both diesel-powered xDrive 30d M Sport and petrol-powered M50i variants on offer.

However, BMW Australia has managed to secure just 10 units – five of each variant – from the global allocation of 500, which will be offered here with drive-away pricing starting from $188,900 for the 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel (195kW/620Nm), or $215,900 in M50i specification with the 4.4-litre V8 (390kW/750Nm).

These prices represent increases of $55,000 and $36,000 respectively over the regular versions, not including on-road costs.

For the extra money, the Bavarian manufacturer says Dark Shadow editions come with several key interior and exterior features.

Inside the cabin, the X7’s Comfort Seats are finished in quilted two-tone Merino Blue/Black, parts of the dash and door cards are also layered with Night Blue leather and the Alcantara headliner is finished in the same shade of blue.

BMW says crafted aluminium inlays throughout the interior split up the ‘Fineline Black’ surface.

The gearshift knob, iDrive controller and start/stop button are all finished in CraftedClarity crystal glass, while a signet on the centre console further points to the model’s exclusivity.

Exterior features that set it apart from the regular BMW X7 include Frozen Arctic Grey metallic paint, matte black 22-inch light alloy wheels, tinted rear windows and blue M Sport brake callipers.

The BMW Laserlight system is also tinted blue, while BMW Individual High-Gloss Shadow Line replaces the flagship luxury SUV’s usual chrome finishers.

BMW Australia says customers can now reserve the X7 Dark Shadow Edition with a $5000 deposit via the BMW Shop online.
