Dodge will now sell you a crated Hellcat engine

‘Hellcrate’ 6.2-litre supercharged V8 a ‘plug and play’ package, says FCA

Your new supercharged Hemi V8 is ready and waiting.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has confirmed it will now offer the scintillating Hellcat 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine as a “plug-and-play” crate package.

Offering an earth-moving 527kW (707hp) and 880Nm, the potent bent-eight brings to the table a 3.6 second 0-100km/h time and 320km/h speed ceiling when employed in the 2017kg Dodge Challenge Hellcat.

The engine is also the same used in the upcoming Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, confirmed for Australia.

Called the Hellcrate, the SEMA-bound powertrain comes in two packages which, when purchased together, are backed by a three-year/unlimited kilometre factory warranty.

Separate to the engine is a powertrain control module, power distribution centre, engine wiring harness, fuel pump control module and all the requisite sensors and add-ons.

“Never before has a supercharged, factory-direct 707-horsepower crate engine kit been offered, and we are proud to be the first to deliver a solution enthusiasts have demanded,” said Pietro Gorlier, FCA’s head of Mopar parts and service. “This ultimate powertrain option fits the needs of owners and fans who demand iconic performance.”

FCA is also offering a Front End Accessory Drive kit, which includes an alternator and power steering pump as well as belts and components which match the Hellcat engine.

The Hellcrate will debut at the upcoming SEMA show in Las Vegas, showcased in a 1970 Plymouth Superbird exhibit.

It’s understood FCA stakeholders are looking into the feasibility of the engine for Australia. It would mean that enthusiasts could order the engine and ancillary parts complete for their own restorations.

In the US, the entire Hellcat package retails for $A28,262, comprising $A25,406 for the engine alone. That’s a lot of Chevrolet LS1 crate engines in monetary terms, but then the Hellcat has a lot more ponies.
