Ferrari will follow up its ultra-limited Monza SP1 and Monza SP2 will a full production run of Ferrari 812 roadsters, it has been revealed.
According to a FerrariChat forum frequented by Ferrari fans and real owners, a convertible version of the Ferrari 812 Superfast is in the pipeline with some customers claiming they've already placed deposits.
It's not known if the droptop Ferrari 812 Superfast will adopt the 'Spider' nametag or use the 'Aperta' moniker reserved for exclusive limited-run roadsters, but according to users the droptop will use a folding hardtop mechanism that looks almost identical to the one found on the 488 Spider.
If so, the 812 Superfast will be the first convertible V12-powered Ferrari since the 575 Superamerica to use a 'proper' folding roof.
The earlier 550 Barchetta Pininfarina and the latter 599 SA Aperta and most recent F12-based F60 America all came with a flimsy fabric roof that offered little protection from the elements.
Whatever the roof, the appeal of a 812 droptop powered by the same incredible 588kW/718Nm naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre V12 will be almost irresistible to fans (and owners) of the current 812 Superfast.Like the coupe, even with the additional weight of a folding roof, its performance is likely to remain explosive, with the V12 convertible easily capable of a sub-2.9sec sprint to 100km/h and a top speed of more than 340km/h.
The open-air 812 is set to be revealed early next year, potentially at the Geneva motor show this March, but it's not yet known how much of a premium Ferrari will charge over the regular 812 Superfast, which costs $609,888 (plus on-road costs) in Australia.
