Ferrari 812 Superfast Spider leaked

First of two new drop-top Ferrari models set to make their debut this month surfaces on Instagram

The first image of the convertible Ferrari 812 Superfast Spider has been leaked online following its private unveiling at an exclusive VIP event at Ferrari's Maranello HQ.

The single image, posted by Instagram user bernardfarid, shows how Ferrari has redesigned the rear half of the coupe, giving the 812 Superfast a pair of dramatic flying buttresses.

It's still not confirmed whether or not Ferrari engineers have added a retractable hard-top or if the 812 Spider uses a lighter fabric hood.

Whatever the roof, the appeal of a 812 drop-top, powered by the same incredible 588kW/718Nm naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre V12 as the coupe, will be almost irresistible to fans (and owners) of the current 812 Superfast.

Even with the additional weight of a folding roof, the drop-top’s performance is primed to remain explosive, with the V12 convertible easily capable of a sub-2.9sec sprint to 100km/h and a top speed of more than 340km/h.

Rumoured to be a full-time member of the Ferrari line-up instead of a limited-run special, the Ferrari convertible is set to command an additional premium of around €40,000 ($A65,000) over the coupe.

Down Under, that could see buyers charged a cool $675,000 (plus on-road costs).

The other car that was shown off at the special launch was a convertible version of either the 488-replacing F8 Tributo or the new SF90 Stradale plug-in hybrid hypercar.

It's not known when and where the Ferrari 812 Superfast Spider will make its debut debut, but it won't be at next week's Frankfurt motor show as the famous Italian car-maker is skipping the event.
